Spotify Success – 43,726 Spotify Streams in 90 Days

The map above represents our Spotify streams over the past 90 days. We have seen these kinds of numbers for a few years now. It’s consistent, praise God for this Spotify success!

I understand that these numbers are insignificant when you look at the big picture. This is nothing compared to the kinds of streams a famous person gets on a popular tune. It reminds me of a quote from a master class with Tim Hagans when he humbly said about himself, “The music industry is big business. Jazz trumpet is little business.”

I agree. My recordings are “little business” in the grand scheme of things.

Praise God for Spotify Success!

That said, these numbers are miraculous for me. This is especially true if you consider it all started. Most of the streams have been from the hymn albums; Unadorned Trumpet Hymns, Unadorned Trumpet Carols and Unadorned Trumpet Hymns II.

I record these hymns as a “first fruits” offering to God. When I first began doing this, I genuinely believed it to be a sacrifice of my time, effort and money. I did NOT think anyone would ever listen to these recordings. I simply gave God the first part of my recording session time. When I had enough recordings to publish an album, I did that, even though I thought almost no one would listen to them.

I also break a few traditional conventions with these recordings. For example, I don’t use click tracks. Other Christians may not agree with my interpretation and application of scripture, but I see the use of click tracks and some other technology to be something akin photoshoping images of women on the magazine covers. So, for these hymn recordings, I don’t use that kind of technology. I don’t even “master” the recordings. I upload them all completely raw.

So you see, this is very miraculous and I praise God for His favor.

Of course, this opens a can of theological worms. I am NOT saying that God favors me because I gave Him a first fruit offering. That’s not how it works and I know that. The offering doesn’t change God. It changes us! The favor is always there. My understanding is that the way we live can prevent us from enjoying His favor. It is possible to turn our backs on God and when we do that, we take ourselves out of His will. Which is also too simplistic…since God can bless anyone He wants for whatever reason. That’s why Jesus said, “with man, this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible.”

Other Sales

One of the things that has changed since I took a hiatus from blogging on this site is that we are selling more books and sheet music now. Here is a list from just the past seven days of what we’ve sold.

This is just seven days of sales. So we are happy with that. It’s not enough to make a living, but it is certainly a good “foot in the door” to where we want to be with all of this.
